The Story of Hurd Stadium and its Clubhouse

Built in the mid-1930’s, the Hurd Stadium clubhouse came to be through the Works Progress Administration which was the largest agency as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal aimed at combating the Great Depression by employing millions of unemployed people across the United States.  Many thousands of projects were delivered in the United States through this program with the Hurd Stadium clubhouse – dedicated in memory to long time athletic trainer in later years, Clammy Foster – being one of the many projects that is still in use today.  Other local landmarks resulting from the Works Progress Administration include Cooney Field in Beverly and Fraser Field in Lynn.

Hurd Stadium-"Home is where the heart is"

A Bit of Hurd Stadium History

A special thanks goes out to all those individual people who have dedicated their time, effort, and energy (and money) to the rebuilding of Hurd Stadium, the clubhouse, and the stands. Hurd Stadium has evolved as a crown jewel of the North Shore, symbolic not only in a community's commitment to its youth, but as a benchmark of civic pride. It is an honor to open up the 2016 Panther football season, once again, at Hurd Stadium, the best high school football stadium in Massachusetts.
